The
Hammond
I saw it in the local buy-sell paper. I hadn't heard of the E100 so did some research. They were made
between 1965 and 1968, and they have the same tone generator, scanner and amplifier as the more
well known A100/B3 mods. There are transistorised percussion generators and a key-click filter, but in
spite of these, the sound is classic Hammond.
I went over to see it and met the owner, Gordon. Gordon's story was very sad, a brain tumor had robbed
him of most of his sight and he could no longer read the music in order to play his cherished
Hammond. I was very happy to get it, but always felt sorry for the circumstances which forced Gordon to
let it go. It was brilliant to hear recently that Gordon got his sight back and bought himself another
Hammond. Brilliant.
